1.Appearance
From the surface, a good quality aluminum billet has a smooth surface, no oil, no scratches and no black spots.
If the surface is dark or not clean, consider whether it is a recycled aluminum materials production or equipment problem, and if there are spots or scratches.
Consider whether the aluminum billets are stored for a longer period of time.
It should be free from inclusions, bubbles, or spots of corrosion.
The cinch marks, layering, and shrinkage depths are less than 0.5% of the billet diameter.
The metal edge is less than 0.2% of the billet diameter.
2.Size
As far as billet shape is concerned, a good quality aluminum billet has a good straightness, and a poor-quality aluminum billet has a curved straightness, and the bending degree is not more than 3 mm per meter.
The full length of the bending according to the billet diameter must not exceed 10-15 mm.
The tolerance of the diameter is also very important, and the tolerance of the diameter of the billet should not exceed 2-5mm.
3. Chemical composition
Big companies basically have spectrometers that can quickly detect aluminum billet components.
Small companies can actually be equipped with chemical analysis equipment.
However, the requirements for operator are high, but the analysis accuracy is higher than that of the spectrometer.
The chemical composition is controlled according to the type of alloy.
4. Macrostructure
4.1. Cracks, blow hole, and white spots are not allowed in the billets.
4.2 Feather crystal, according to the requirements of the profile, the minimum level feather crystal area is less than 30% of the aluminum billet area, the highest level is not allowed in the billets.
4.3 Slag inclusion: The highest level is not allowed, the minimum level is no more than 2 points, and each point is less than 0.5mm.
4.4 Bright grain: The highest level is not allowed in the billets; the minimum level is 1-10 points according to the size.
4.5 Grain size and loosen, inspect by grade.
4.6 Compound: The highest level is not allowed in the billets, the minimum level is no more than 5 points, and each point is less than 5mm.
5.Microstructure
It is mainly tested that the aluminum billet after homogenization should not have a burnt phenomenon.
