The working principle of Electrostatic powder coating

Electrostatic powder coating is based on the principle of high voltage electrostatic corona electric field.

The metal guide ring on the spray gun head is connected to the high voltage negative electrode, and the coated workpiece is grounded to the positive pole.

A strong electrostatic field is formed between the spray gun and the workpiece.

When the carrier (compressed air) transports the powder from the powder feeding unit to the gas guiding ring of the spray gun through the conveying pipe, since the guiding ring is connected to the high-voltage negative electrode to generate a corona discharge, a dense electric charge is generated around the powder to bring the powder with the negative charge, under the combined action of electrostatic force and compressed air, the powder flies from the gun to the workpiece and is uniformly adsorbed on the surface of the workpiece.

After heating, the powder dissolves and remains flat to form a uniform, continuous and smooth coating.

The process of powder adsorption on the surface of the workpiece

The first stage:

The powder is uniformly adsorbed on the surface of the workpiece under the action of the electrostatic electric field force to form a thin continuous coating layer, and the powder at this stage is basically absorbed by the workpiece.

The second stage:

The powder continues to fly to the surface of the workpiece under the action of the electrostatic electric field. Since the covered powder has the same charge as the new powder, the repulsion is generated, but the electrostatic field force is stronger than the repulsive force, and the powder will continue to absorb, the coating will continue to thicken, but some of the powder can not be absorbed on the surface of the workpiece and fall off.

The third stage:

As the thickness of the coating increases, the repulsive force increases. When it is as large as the electrostatic electric field force, the powder is no longer adsorbed. At this time, the thickness of the coating is no longer increased, and the spraying powder is not at all absorbed and falls off.
